Two-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Flying Eagle Decoration, Stamped "WM E. WARNER / WEST-TROY.," NY State origin, circa 1855, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a spread-winged eagle with spotted body, carrying a spotted banner in its beak. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. One of Warner's most prized designs, featuring good color and large coverage of the vessel's front. Fry to cobalt. A thin 3 1/4" crack from rim on front. A thin 3 1/2" crack from rim on far left side of crock's front. A 4 1/4" inverted Y-shaped line near base on reverse. A few small in-the-firing iron pings to interior. A 1 1/8" in-the-firing iron ping to rim. Traces of old white paint to base on front. H 9".
