Scarce Four-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Wreath Decoration, Dated "1868," Stamped "E & L P NORTON / BENNINGTON VT," 1868, semi-ovoid jug with squared spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a wreath with unusual openwork areas, surrounding the date, "1868." Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. An approximately 6 1/2" vertical line ascending front. A 2" x 7/8" base chip on reverse. A minor base chip on front. Light staining. H 17 1/2".
