One-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON, VT," circa 1855, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird perched on a stylized branch. Cobalt accent to maker's mark. Two small chips to proper left handle. Shallow chipping to proper right handle. An approximately 3 3/4" Y-shaped line to proper right side of crock. An approximately 2" cross-shaped line near base on reverse, not visible on interior. H 7 1/4".
