Rare and Fine One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Star-Shaped Floral Motif, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON VT," circa 1855, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a daisy with spotted interior, its petals radiating with long, pointed trails of cobalt forming a star. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark and capacity mark. Very nice condition. A faint, 4 1/4" inverted Y-shaped line to reverse, not visible on interior. A few tiny nicks to inner rim for lid. H 10 1/2".
