Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Western PA or WV origin, circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, brush-decorated with a looping vine bearing graduated leaves and four Germanic tulips. Freehand stripe decoration to shoulder. Freehand "4" at base. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Very nice condition. Light surface wear and grease residue to surface. A minor in-the-firing fissure to proper right handle. A slight bow to underside. H 14 5/8".
