Fine Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Star Face Decoration, Stamped "T. HARRINGTON / LYONS," NY State origin, circa 1860, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with an extravagant slip-trailed design of a circular face surrounded by eight pointed rays. Slip-trailed "3" to each side of decoration. Cobalt accents to maker's mark. A bold rendering of this iconic Harrington motif, featuring excellent coverage of the design over the vessel's front, strong contrast, and thick, enamel-like cobalt. A 1 1/8" x 5/8" in-the-firing base flake on reverse. An iron ping with drip on proper right side of jar, including a short, minor line to top of rim. A 7/8" chip to interior of rim. Some wear to cobalt. A small chip to proper right handle. A small chip and minor wear to proper left handle. ***THIS LOT INCLUDES AN UPDATE ON ITS CONDITION: AREAS OF PROFESSIONAL RESTORATION TO DECORATION. H 12 1/8".
