Small-Sized Stoneware Jar with Incised Decoration, attributed to John Remmey, III, Manhattan, NY, early 19th century, ovoid jug with footed base, tooled shoulder, and open loop handles, decorated on the front and reverse with an abstract incised floral design highlighted in cobalt slip with manganese possibly added. The same slip appears on the handle terminals. Provenance: Jeffrey S. Evans and Associates, Mt. Crawford, VA, June 16, 2023. Significant exfoliation to surface. A 7 1/2" inverted Y-shaped crack from rim. Two lines from rim on opposing side, descending to shoulder. Chipping to rim. A small flake to one handle. An in-the-firing contact mark at base of decoration on one side. H 7 1/2".
