Five-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Chicken Pecking Corn Decoration, Stamped "NEW YORK / STONEWARE CO. / FORT EDWARD, N.Y.," circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a chicken pecking kernels of corn from a stylized ground with shrubs. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Inner rim with small chips and wear. A minor in-the-firing iron ping to proper right side of jar, which is glazed over. A few minor base chips. Minor wear to cobalt. H 15 1/2".
