Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Parrot Decoration, Stamped "S,L, PEWTRESS & CO / FAIR HAVEN CONN," circa 1870, ovoid jar with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed design of a crested parrot perched in crossed branches with graduated dashed flourish. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A 5 1/2" crack from rim on reverse. An additional 5 1/2" crack from rim on far proper right side of jar's front. Slight warping to underside. Minor surface wear. Minor fry to cobalt. A small chip and minor wear to interior of rim. H 12 3/4".
