Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Bold Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG .PA," circa 1865, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and flattened rim, brush-decorated with an undulating vine bearing three carrot-shaped blossoms. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Exceptional color and unusual composition to the design. Exfoliation to base area and underside. A few shallow rim chips. H 13".
