Extremely Rare "Pottery of Norwich" Pencil Drawing, Dated Oct. 29 1851, depicting Sidney Risley's Norwich, Connecticut stoneware pottery atop a hill with various buildings, a firing kiln with smoke, and stretch of the Thames River with man rowing a boat. Dated lower left. Included in a 19th century wooden frame. Relatively few hand-drawn depictions of early American stoneware potteries have survived. The valuable inscribed date places the scene to the time period in which Risley owned and operated the pottery. This drawing is possibly by the same as-yet-unidentified artist as a similar work in the collection of the Connecticut Historical Society. Staining to base of drawing and a few spots of discoloration. Framed Dimensions: 12 1/4" x 10".
