Very Rare Three-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Epigraph Crock, Inscribed "I WILL STOP HOME," Stamped "BROWN BROTHER , / HUNTINGTON, / L.I.," circa 1870-1885, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, featuring the slip-trailed cobalt inscription, "I / WILL / STOP / HOME," accented with flourishes at the base. The Brown brothers' famous epigraph vessels are regarded as this family's most prized products, with less than twenty such examples known. This work features a thoughtful maxim about the connectedness between a person, his home, and family. Excellent condition with only minor flaws: some short lines to rim, a 4" in-the-firing line from rim on interior (not visible on exterior), a minuscule nick to one handle, and exfoliation to the Albany slip on the interior base. H 10 1/2".
