Three-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jug with Stenciled Eagle Motif, Stenciled "R.T. WILLIAMS. / NEW GENEVA. PA," circa 1880, ovoid jug decorated with a large stenciled design of a spread-winged Federal eagle with shield across its chest, arrows in its talons, and banner in its beak. Stenciled "R.T. Williams" above and "NEW GENEVA. PA." below. Further decorated above with a freehand "3" flanked by stylized floral motifs and underscored by a wavy stripe. Freehand stripe to base. Cobalt highlights to upper handle terminal. Very nice condition with some light surface wear to front. H 17".
