Exceptional Shenandoah Valley Multi-Glazed Redware Pitcher and Washbowl Set, attributed to J. Eberly & Co., Strasburg, VA, circa 1890, vasiform pitcher with footed base, upswept spout, and spurred handle, the surface dipped in cream-colored slip, decorated with streaks of copper and manganese, and covered in a clear lead glaze. Bowl features strap handles embellished with faux screwhead terminals and applied balls of clay, the rim with applied soap dish surmounted by "fiddlehead" scrollwork flanked by balls of clay. Surface dipped in cream-colored slip, decorated with streaks of copper and manganese, and covered in a clear lead glaze. Pitcher in very nice condition with a few minor glaze flakes to rim, a minor fleck of glaze loss to handle, very minor surface wear, an in-the-firing contact mark near base, a small fleck of glaze loss near base, and some light wear to foot. Bowl with full restoration to fiddlehead ornament and two balls of clay beside it, some restoration to surface below it, and restoration to rim of soap dish. One handle reglued with restoration along breaks. Expected light wear to interior base. Minor flecks of glaze loss to rim. A few very minor base chips. H (of pitcher) 11 1/4" ; Dimensions (of bowl): 13 1/2" x 5 5/8".
