Three-Gallon Iron-Decorated Stoneware Jar, attributed to John Swann, Alexandria, VA, circa 1815, ovoid jar with heavily-tooled shoulder, footed base, flared rim, and arched tab handles, the shoulder decorated with a dipped, reddish-brown iron-oxide solution, the surface covered in a clear salt glaze. A small hole in underside with cracks emanating from it and continuing onto base area. A Y-shaped line near midsection. Heavy chipping to base. Large rim chips. A loss to one handle and chipped section to opposite handle. H 14".
