Rare Six-Gallon Glazed Redware Jar, Stamped "L. JOHNSON," Lorenzo Johnson, Newstead, Erie County, NY, circa 1850-1886, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, the exterior covered in a mottled cream-green glaze, the interior covered in a lead-and-manganese glaze. One of only a few marked examples of Johnson's work that we have offered. A 3" hairline from rim on front, a 3" hairline from rim on side of crock, and a thin 4" crack from rim on reverse. Chips and wear to rim. Minor wear to shoulder molding. Some wear to handles. H 12 7/8" ; Diam. (across top) 12".
