Exceptional Large-Sized Stoneware Spaniel with Cobalt Decoration, American, possibly Cowden & Wilcox, Harrisburg, PA, circa 1860-1885, hollow-molded figure of a seated spaniel on slab base with hand-incised details to eyes, muzzle, and paws, the surface with elaborate cobalt brushwork under a clear salt glaze. Potted in an impressive size, this work features a form and hollowed construction related to smaller spaniels produced at the Cowden pottery in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. A large area of restoration to slab base. Additional restored base chips. Figure itself survives in excellent condition. H 10 1/2".
