Two Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jars, Western PA origin, second half 19th century, a five-gallon jar with stenciled and freehand decoration, stenciled "WILLIAMS & REPPERT / GREENSBORO. PA," circa 1885; paired with a one-gallon cylindrical jar with freehand foliate and stripe motifs, Beaver, PA origin, circa 1850-1880. Provenance: Estate of author and historian, Nancy Shedd, Petersburg, PA. Taller jar with staining, a chip and wear to one handle, wear to opposite handle, two small in-the-firing contact marks to side of jar, and light surface wear. Smaller jar with large spider cracks. H (of taller) 16".
