Outstanding Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Flowerpot with Molded Decoration, American, circa 1850-1880, wheel-thrown, tapered flowerpot with rounded shoulder molding, footed base, and original drain hole in underside, decorated with molded and applied designs of a hunter with hounds and a fence on one side and two horses on the reverse. Handles molded in the form of lion's heads with rings in their mouths. Cobalt stripe decoration to shoulder molding. Cobalt highlights to applied decoration and cobalt band around base. The base construction of the flowerpot indicates it once sat on a base of sorts. Losses to rim. Base chips, the largest measuring 1 3/8". A 3" surface line to midsection. Two Y-shaped surface lines to midsection, measuring 2" and 2 1/2". H 8 1/2".
