One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Watch Spring Decoration, Manhattan, NY or Cheesequake, NJ origin, third quarter 18th century, ovoid jar with footed base, heavily-tooled shoulder, and semi-rounded rim, decorated around the shoulder with three slip-trailed "watch spring" motifs. Provenance: From a recently-surfaced collection. A 1 3/8" in-the-firing chip to top of rim. Small chips to interior of rim. A small base chip. A 1 3/4" Y-shaped surface line to shoulder, not visible on interior. An additional, very minor 1 1/4" surface line to shoulder, not visible on interior. H 9 1/2".
