Two-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "WHITES UTICA NY," circa 1865, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird, perched on a leafy branch. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Bubbling to cobalt on tail of bird. Spots of staining to surface. Shallow chips to right handle. A small rim chip on reverse and other minor rim chips. A 3/8" flake to shoulder. H 9 7/8".
