Rare Salt-Glazed Stoneware Canning Jar, Incised "Jesse Vestal / 1880," Washington County, VA origin, 1880, narrow, semi-ovoid jar with visible throw lines and tall, flaring rim, featuring the expressive incised signature of potter, Jesse Vestal, followed by the date, "1880." Few signed examples of Vestal family stoneware are known. A long, sealed inverted Y-shaped crack from rim, including two tiny slivers of clay reglued at the formation of the Y. A shallow 5/8" chip to top of rim and minor chip to edge of rim. H 8 1/2".
