Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Incised Floral Decoration, attributed to Clarkson Crolius, Sr., Manhattan, NY, circa 1800, ovoid jug with footed base and heavily-tooled spout, decorated with an incised design of a flower featuring a coggle-decorated blossom. Interior of design purple and bluish slip, a combination of manganese dioxide and cobalt oxide. Additional purplish slip highlights to handle terminals. An old hole on right side of shoulder that was filled with cork(?) long ago, now revealing a small hole at the center of the filled area. Crazing to reverse base. A smooth 2 1/2" in-the-firing contact mark on reverse. Additional in-the-firing flaws to surface.
