Fine Presentation Stoneware Harvest Jug, Inscribed "J,H, McCONNELL. / ALLIANCE. O. / Oct 22 1895," Ohio origin, 1895, domed form with applied wide and narrow pouring spouts and handle, each fashioned in a rustic style, the spouts with applied roots and incised details resembling tree stumps, the handle resembling a trunk with sawed limbs atop two stumps. Surface covered in an Albany slip glaze with stenciled inscription, "J,H, McCONNELL. / ALLIANCE, O," above the incised date, "Oct 22 1895." Joseph H. McConnell (1862-1920) operated a grocery and provisions store in Alliance, Ohio, with his brother, John, under the firm name of McConnell Bros.
