One-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Ralph J. Grier, Chester County, PA, circa 1865, ovoid pitcher with stepped foot and tooled collar, decorated with a double-stemmed plant with drooping tassel-shaped blossoms. Brushed foliate devices to collar and stripes to spout. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Among the finer Grier pitchers that we have offered, featuring a more elaborate design than typically seen, depicting floral motifs closely-related to the work of the Remmey family. Handle reglued and painted at the terminals. This restoration extends to the rim above the handle. Some restoration to edge of spout. A tiny chip to underside at edge.
