Rare Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Harvest Jug, Dated "APRIL 1 1899," Ohio origin, 1899, beehive form with applied breast-form and tubular pouring spouts and wood-and-wire bail handle. Body of jug dipped in Albany slip and base dipped in Bristol slip and cobalt-decorated with the April Fool's Day date, "APRIL 1 1899," within a border. Base of jug further decorated with sponged cobalt. Desirable form with excellent decoration. Provenance: Ex-Peter Brams Collection. One ear restored. A small filled and colored chip to breast-form spout and a minor colored spot to same spout. Chips to one end of wooden handle. H 10 3/4".
