Fine One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "H.C. SMITH / ALEXA / D.C.," circa 1835, cylindrical jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and rounded rim, decorated around the body with two sweeping floral motifs, one culminating in a tulip and the other culminating in a fern-like blossom. Reverse decorated with three horizontal foliate devices. A well-decorated example of Hugh Charles Smith stoneware featuring exceptional color. An approximately 4" hairline from rim to right of maker's mark and some extremely minor base wear.
