Outstanding Large-Sized Tanware Spittoon, Western PA origin, circa 1885, cylindrical form with tooled shoulder, recessed top, and carved opening to one side, profusely-decorated around the top with graduated Albany slip swags. Body of spittoon decorated with an undulating vine between two freehand stripes. Among the rarest utilitarian tanware forms. Large loss above opening at shoulder. Two rim chips. A short spider line to rim area. A 1 1/2" hairline from opening in top surface. H 5 7/8" ; Diameter 9 1/8".
