Rare Lidded Stoneware Preserve Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Inscribed "Pear," attributed to the Coffman Family, Rockingham County, VA, mid 19th century, ovoid jar with tall collar and applied lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a slip-trailed stem bearing two bluebell blossoms and a series of swags. Incised "Pear" at shoulder on front. Includes original salt-glazed stoneware lid typical of this form. Provenance: Recently-surfaced in the South-Central U.S. Very nice condition. A thin 2 1/2" crack with a long, thin horizontal hairline extending off from it. Minor rim chips. Small chips to edge and flange on underside. H (including lid) 7".
