Unusual Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Parnassus, PA Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1875, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim, featuring the stenciled cobalt advertising, "E.J. ORR & CO. / DEALERS IN / GROCERIES, QUEENSWARE / GLASSWARE & C. / MAIN STREET. PARNASSUS. / PA." Freehand straight and wavy stripe decoration to shoulder. Base with freehand "2," flanked by flourishes and underscored by a stripe. Chips to shoulder molding. Some wear to surface.
