Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Sine Wave Decoration, Eastern TN origin, possibly Mort Family, Jefferson County, circa 1860, slender-bodied pitcher of ovoid form with flared collar and thin strap handle, decorated around the upper half with straight and wavy incised lines. Surface covered in a reddish-brown slip and covered in a light salt glaze. Impressed with a distinctive two-gallon capacity mark under handle, featuring a raised-face number and rectangular, sawtoothed border. A delicately-potted example. A restored 2 3/4" line descending from far right edge of spout. Some restoration to left side of rim. A small base chip.
