Small-Sized Shenandoah Valley Multi-Glazed Redware Jar, Stamped "S. BELL & SON. / STRASBURG", VA origin, circa 1890, ovoid jar with semi-rounded rim, the surface covered in cream-colored slip, decorated with splashed copper and manganese, and covered in a clear lead glaze. Impressed with "S. BELL & SON. / STRASBURG" maker's mark at shoulder. Desirable size with strong color. A 2 1/2" x 1 3/4" X-shaped stained surface line to exterior, not visible on interior. A 2 1/2" x 2 3/4" group of stained surface lines to exterior base area, not visible on interior. Wear to rim. Light wear to base. A few tiny nicks of glaze loss to body. H 6 1/8".
