Three-Gallon Open-Handled Stoneware Jar with Incised Decoration, Manhattan, NY origin, early 19th century, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and open loop handles, decorated on the front and reverse with an incised and cobalt-highlighted design related to the impressed drape or "clamshell" motif of Thomas Commeraw. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Exfoliation to surface. Rim chips. A 2 3/4" hairline from rim on one side and an approximately 5" hairline from rim on opposite side. Various tight lines to body of jar. An in-the-firing contact mark to each side of jar.
