Three-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Lid, Stamped "H.B. PFALTZGRAFF / YORK, PA", circa 1870-1889, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, flattened rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a large floral spray featuring two tulip blossoms. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Includes a 19th century, slightly-domed lid with salt-glazed border, not original to the jar. A 5" inverted Y-shaped crack from rim on right side of jar's front. A thin 5" crack from rim on reverse. Several large rim chips. Lines to both handles, possibly in-the-firing. Some light exfoliation to underside and interior base. Lid, in excellent, essentially as-made condition, does not fit jar.
