One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Proctor, WV Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1875, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim, featuring the stenciled advertising, "WM. ROGERS & CO. / PROCTOR. / W. VA.". Midsection with small stenciled design of a circle within a triangle, surrounded by rays, probably representing a pyramid with all-seeing eye. Decorated above with two stenciled tulips and along side and base of advertising with small stenciled flourishes. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a twenty-year private collection. A dark, in-the-firing contact mark to left of stenciling. Otherwise excellent condition.
