Two-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar, Columbia, SC, circa 1860, ovoid jar with applied tab handles and flared rim with inner ledge for lid, the surface covered in a mottled green alkaline glaze over a reddish-brown clay ground. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor in Baltimore County, MD over ten years ago. A hairline across underside, which form a thin crack extending 7" up side of jar. A minor nick to exterior of rim and nicks to recessed inner rim. Shallow base chips.
