Four-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. MANTELL / PENN YAN", circa 1860, semi-ovoid churn with flared collar and applied lug handles, profusely-decorated with an elaborate brushed and slip-trailed flowering plant design. Exceptional size to decoration, measuring 15 1/2" tall. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Significant restoration to reverse and underside, not affecting decoration.
