Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Paddletail Bird Decoration, Stamped "N.A. WHITE & SON / UTICA, N.Y.", circa 1885, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a brushed and slip-trailed design of a crested bird with paddle-shaped tail, perched on a flowering vine. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Heavy exfoliation to base on reverse. Some minor exfoliation to front. A chip to interior of rim. Two chips to exterior of rim on reverse. Some light staining.
