Unusual Three-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar, Incised "XI" with Three Slash Marks, probably Edgefield, SC origin, circa 1840, ovoid jar with distinctive tooled rim and applied tab handles, the surface covered in a light-green alkaline glaze with appealing glaze runs on reverse. Shoulder incised with the three slash marks followed by the notation "XI". Chips to both handles. Restoration to rim. A horizontal crack at base.
