Five-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Stenciled Rose Motif, Stenciled "Wilkinson & Fleming / Shinnston. / W.Va", circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a stenciled rose blossom at the center of Wilkinson & Fleming maker's stenciling. Additionally decorated above with a large stylized flourish, underscored by a Celtic cross and wheat stenciling. Freehand stripe decoration below rim and stenciled number 5 at base. A nicely-executed example of Shinnston, WV stoneware. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Very nice condition with a 4 1/8" hairline from rim on reverse.
