Rare Stoneware Sculpture of a Log Cabin, American, possibly Midwestern, late 19th century, hand-modeled cabin composed of stacked clay logs and a slab-constructed roof, featuring two chimneys, one extending from the base of the cabin, formed from numerous balls of clay. Carved doorway and two windows in one side. Some light areas of salt glazing to surface. This example is somewhat larger than most other American ceramic cabin sculptures we have seen and has a charming, folk art quality about it. Excellent overall condition with two chips to roof and a chip to smaller chimney. L 8 1/2" ; W 6 7/8" ; H 6 7/8".
