Scarce One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird-on-Stump Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON. / BENNINGTON VT", circa 1855, cylindrical jug with semi-squared spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a long-tailed bird perched on a tree stump. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Unusual design and desirable small size. Excellent, as-made condition with an in-the-firing dry spot along right edge of tree stump.
