Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Incised Foliate Decoration, Stamped "J. REMMEY. / MANHATTAN-WELLS / NEW-YORK.", circa 1810, ovoid jug with heavily-tooled spout and rounded lip, decorated with an incised and cobalt-highlighted foliate design featuring splayed leaves. Brushed cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. A 5" crack to underside, with short, faint lines extending off from it. Base chips, mostly small and shallow. H 14 3/4".
