Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Stenciled Bird Motif, Stenciled "HAMILTON & JONES. / GREENSBORO. PA", circa 1875, ovoid jar with semi-squared rim, decorated with a finely-stenciled design of a flying bird below arching Hamilton & Jones maker's stenciling. Freehand stripes to shoulder and base. Stenciled number 2 with flourishes at base. A 7 3/4" crack from rim on reverse. Staining to surface. A 1" flake and two small chips to interior of rim.
