Three-Gallon Orange, MA Advertising Crock with Cobalt Bird Decoration, New York State origin, circa 1875, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird perched on a cluster of leaves. Impressed above with the unusual cobalt-highlighted merchant mark, "C A TOWNE / ORANGE MASS". Provenance: David Musser Collection. Significant restoration to right side of front, including an unknown amount of restoration to handle. Additional restoration to base on right side, which extends partway onto front.
