Fine and Scarce Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "FENTON & HANCOCK / ST JOHNSBURY. VT", circa 1860, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a flowering plant featuring daisies and oval-shaped blossoms with detailed interiors. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Excellent decoration and color. A 5/8" chip to rim on front. A thin 2" crack from rim on side of jar. A 2 1/4" hairline from rim on reverse. A 5/8" surface crack from rim on reverse. Some staining to surface.
