Rare One-Gallon Shenandoah Valley Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "D.H. HENKEL.", Stonyman, VA, circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and squared rim, decorated with freehand swags flanking a large central tulip blossom. Impressed with "D.H. HENKEL" maker's mark beside a distinctive one-gallon capacity mark at shoulder. Stonyman stoneware is difficult-to-find in its own right, significantly rarer with cobalt decoration. A diagonal crack extending from base to shoulder. A 5 1/2" vertical crack from rim. Small rim chips.
