Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Watchspring Decoration, probably Manhattan origin, late 18th century, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and open loop handles, decorated with a large brushed watchspring motif on the front and reverse. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Jar is out-of-round. A top-to-bottom jagged crack from rim. A 1 1/4" piece of clay adhered to body on side of jar near base. A 1/2" piece of clay adhered to shoulder. Base chips. A few short vertical lines ascending from base, two of which extend onto underside. A 1" iron ping and two other minor pings to underside.
