Two DEMUTH'S SNUFF / LANCASTER, PA Stoneware Jars, American, circa 1900, both of similar squat form with Bristol-slip-glazed surfaces and the black-glazed advertising "DEMUTH'S CELEBRATED / SNUFF. / ESTABLISHED 1770 / LANCASTER, PA.". Provenance: David Musser Collection. One with original Bristol-slip-glazed lid, the other with salt-glazed lid, not original to the jar. A small chip and tiny nick to Bristol-slip-glazed lid. Jar with original lid in excellent, essentially as-made condition, its lid with a small chip and two minor nicks. Jar with salt-glazed lid has two chips to rim of jar and some water glass staining to lid. H (of jar including original lid) 6 3/4".
