Two Sewertile Match Safes, Ohio origin, both stamped "J.W. MOORE / UHRICHSVILLE, OHIO", circa 1930, an unglazed example with hand-incised bark, incised on underside "Bowerston Shale Co." and stamped four times, "J.W. MOORE / UHRICHSVILLE, OHIO"; paired with a glazed sewertile example with hand-incised bark and mound below plaque, the underside stamped twice "J.W. MOORE / UHRICHSVILLE, OHIO". Provenance: From a recently-surfaced collection of sewertile amassed during the 1960s and 1970s, many purchased directly from the potters themselves. Both in excellent, essentially as-made condition. H (of smaller match safe) 2 3/8" ; W (of smaller match safe) 3 3/8".
